Washingtonโs Headquarters
Morristown, NJ
This marker commemorates Morristown's role as the site of George Washington's military headquarters during two winters of the Revolutionary War โ early 1777 and again from December 1779 into June 1780. The winter of 1779โ80 was one of the harshest of the century, and the Continental Army endured brutal cold and shortages while encamped nearby at Jockey Hollow. From Morristown, Washington held his army together and directed the war effort through some of its most desperate months.
