Fort Monmouth Soldiers and Civilians Memorial

Oceanport, NJ

For most of the twentieth century Fort Monmouth, on the New Jersey shore near Oceanport and Eatontown, was one of the Army's premier communications-electronics posts โ€” long tied to the Signal Corps and the radar, radio, and battlefield-communications work that supported American troops abroad. This memorial gathers that legacy under two late-Cold-War campaigns named on the stone: Operation Just Cause, the December 1989 action in Panama, and Operation Desert Storm, the 1991 war to expel Iraqi forces from Kuwait. It honors both the soldiers and civilian personnel who deployed from the fort and the families who waited for them at home.
