Richmond Pearson
Asheville, NC
Richmond Pearson represented western North Carolina in Congress at the turn of the twentieth century, then took up a diplomatic career as U.S. Minister to Persia and later to Greece and Montenegro. His estate, "Richmond Hill," stood a half mile from this marker on a bluff above the French Broad River. His life bridged the worlds of mountain politics and international diplomacy in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.
