The Story
The Blue Star Memorial program began in 1945 as a living tribute—rows of flowering dogwoods honoring World War II troops—and expanded to salute members of all the armed forces. Sponsored here by the Metter Garden Club with the Garden Club of Georgia's Oleander District and Candler County, this marker carries a national tradition into a small Georgia community. The blue star recalls the service banners that once hung in the windows of homes with family in uniform.
