The Story
The Blue Star Memorial Highway program took its name from the blue-star service flags of World War II and was launched by garden clubs in 1945 to honor the armed forces. Working with state highway departments, clubs dedicated roads across the country as living tributes. This Swainsboro marker was sponsored by the Swainsboro Garden Club with the Georgia State Highway Department.
