The Story
Named for the blue-star flags families displayed during World War II, Blue Star Memorial Highways were begun by garden clubs in 1945 as tributes to the armed forces. The program spread nationally, often placed in cooperation with county and state officials. This marker in Claxton was sponsored by the Claxton Garden Club with the Evans County Commissioners.
