200th Coast Artillery Marker and Eternal Flame
Santa Fe, NM
New Mexico's Eternal Flame in Santa Fe, dedicated in 1966, honors the state's war dead and is tied to the 200th Coast Artillery — the New Mexico National Guard regiment sent to the Philippines and caught in the fall of Bataan in 1942. Many of those men endured the Bataan Death March and years of captivity, and New Mexico suffered some of the war's heaviest per-capita losses.
