The Story
In May 1765 backcountry settlers, angry over disputed land titles, attacked a surveying party near this spot in what became known as the 'War of Sugar Creek.' The clash grew from deep tensions between frontier farmers and distant colonial authorities over property and fair dealing. Those same grievances soon swelled into the wider Regulator movement.
