This fellowship was founded in 1877 by The Rev. Warner B. Riggs and a small group of charter members. Within three years there were more than fifty names on the church roll, and a sanctuary had been erected on West Main Street. Despite financial hardships that forced Brenham Presbyterian Church to close for eight years, the congregation continued to provide service and leadership to the community. The present sanctuary. Erected in 1913 by the Fourth St. Methodist Church, has served the congregation since 1951.

The Story
Brenham Presbyterian Church was founded in 1877 by the Rev. Warner B. Riggs and a small band of charter members, and within three years its rolls topped fifty names and a sanctuary rose on West Main Street. Financial hardship once forced the church to close for eight years, but the congregation endured and kept serving the community. Since 1951 it has worshipped in a sanctuary originally built in 1913 by the Fourth Street Methodist Church.

Moses Baine
Brenham, TX
Born in Ireland, Moses Baine emigrated to the United States in 1819 and, with his wife Cecilia, joined Stephen F. Austin's colony at San Felipe in 1830. He fought in the decisive Battle of San Jacinto and afterward built a permanent home near Brenham in 1837, later serving in the Somervell Expedition as a soldier of the Republic of Texas. Returning home in 1843, he prospered as a stock raiser and farmer.
First Baptist Church

Organized in 1846 as New Year's Creek Church at a schoolhouse in the Allcorn area, this congregation was founded by Judge R. E. B. Baylor, W. W. Buster, and Hosea Garrett. In 1848—the year the Texas Baptist Convention formed—Baylor University's first president, the Rev. Henry L. Graves, became its pastor. The church moved to Brenham in 1853 and took its present name, later rebuilding after a 1952 fire.
First Christian Church of Brenham

Growing out of the missionary work of A. J. Bush and W. J. Jones, this congregation organized with 18 members in 1877 and counted many prominent Washington County settlers among its early ranks. The fellowship worshiped in various places until its sanctuary was finished in 1898. Built by noted local craftsman Alex Griffin, the Gothic Revival church features round-arched and lancet windows and an elaborate tower.

Founded in 1844 while Texas was still an independent republic, this town honors Dr. Richard Fox Brenham, a surgeon in the army of the Republic of Texas. Brenham joined the ill-fated Mier Expedition against Mexico and was killed in the fighting at Salado in February 1843, one year before the town took his name. His story ties the community's origins to the turbulent, blood-marked border between the young republic and Mexico.
