The Story
The Blue Star Memorial Highway program originated in 1945 with New Jersey garden clubs honoring World War II troops through memorial plantings, and it soon became a national tradition marked by the blue-star emblem of the wartime service flag. This Queen Anne's County marker, sponsored by the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland with the State Highway Administration, dedicates a stretch of Maryland roadway to the armed forces that have defended the country.
