The Story
First planted in 1945 by the National Garden Clubs, Blue Star Memorial markers honor the armed forces along the highways of the United States, their emblem borrowed from the service flags of World War II. This Lowndes County marker was sponsored by the Garden Club of Georgia with the state transportation department and the Valdosta-area garden clubs. It dedicates the highway to all who have defended the country.
