The Story
Blue Star Memorial markers trace back to the mid-1940s, when American garden clubs began planting living tributes to the servicemembers of World War II; the program soon grew to honor all who have served in the nation's armed forces. This marker, sponsored by the Boca Raton Garden Club with the state garden federation and Florida's transportation department, carries that tribute along a public highway. The blue star recalls the service flags families hung in their windows during the war.

Designed by celebrated architect Addison Mizner in his Mediterranean Revival style and completed by William Alsmeyer, Boca Raton's Town Hall opened in 1927 as the young city's first municipal building, housing its government, fire department, and police. The Woman's Club opened Boca Raton's first public library on this spot the same year. Listed on the National Register as "Old City Hall" in 1980, it was restored to serve as the city's history museum.
