The Story
The Blue Star Memorial program began in 1945 as a living tribute of dogwoods honoring World War II troops and expanded into a nationwide salute to all who have served. Sponsored in Springfield by the Garden Club of Georgia's Oleander District and the Springfield Garden Club, this marker carries that tradition into Effingham County. Its blue star recalls the emblem of the wartime service flag displayed by military families.
