Theodor Seuss Geisel Memorial Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat This Memorial was dedicated at UCSD, home of the Dr. Seuss Collection, on 2 March 2004, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss. The original casting of this work is part of the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden at the Springfield Museums' Quadrangle in Springfield, Massachusetts, the birthplace of Theodor Seuss Geisel. The Story
Dedicated at UC San Diego in 2004 on the centennial of his birth, this memorial honors Theodor Seuss Geisel — the beloved Dr. Seuss — whose whimsical rhymes and drawings reshaped how American children learn to read. UCSD holds the Dr. Seuss Collection, and the sculpture echoes an original in Geisel's Springfield, Massachusetts birthplace.

George H. Scripps Laboratory

Designed by the noted architect Irving Gill and built in 1909–1910, this is the oldest oceanographic laboratory building in the United States. Over the years it served as a working lab, public aquarium, classroom, and director's office, and generations of leaders in ocean science received their training within its walls. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
