The Story
The Blue Star Memorial Highway program was founded in 1945, its name taken from the blue-star service flags of the World War II home front, and it honors all who have defended the United States. Sponsored by the Montana de Oro District with California Garden Clubs and the state parks, this marker overlooks the rugged San Luis Obispo coast. It joins a chain of tributes running the length of California's highways.
