In this church, March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry declared, 'Give me liberty, or give me death!' rallying Virginia to the revolutionary cause.

The Story
The Second Virginia Convention met here, beyond reach of the royal governor. Patrick Henry's speech persuaded delegates — including Washington and Jefferson — to arm the colony's militia.
Why it matters
Henry's words pushed Virginia, the largest colony, toward revolution and became one of the most quoted speeches in American history.
