The Story
J. G. de Roulhac Hamilton was a University of North Carolina historian and professor who understood that the past can vanish if no one saves its paper trail. He founded the Southern Historical Collection, gathering letters, diaries, and records from across the region before they could be lost. His labor turned Chapel Hill into one of the great archives of Southern life.
