Organized 1915. Pastor, the Rev. T. C. Willett, rode bicycle from Tahoka to preach here. Church met for two years in Graham School building, then in Gossett School building, which it bought in 1930. Moved here, structure has been enlarged. (1969)

The Story
Organized in 1915 on the young West Texas plains, Graham Chapel Methodist Church was served by the Rev. T. C. Willett, who pedaled a bicycle from Tahoka to preach. The congregation met first in the Graham School, then in the Gossett School building, which it purchased in 1930 and moved to this site. The modest structure was later enlarged as the community grew.

Graham Church of Christ

In 1908 settler J. I. Wilbourn, helped by the congregation at Fluvanna, arranged the first Church of Christ services in the Garza County community of Graham. The church was formally organized that September 21 with elders J. F. Maxey and Wilbourn. More than a century on, it has ministered to a fourth generation of its founding families.
Kate McCommis

This marker remembers Kate McCommis, who died in February 1884 on the very day she was born, attended only by her young cowboy father amid the hardships of frontier life. Recorded as a Texas historic landmark in 1968, her small grave stands as a witness to the isolation and peril of the open range. It speaks to the countless unrecorded losses that shadowed pioneer families.
Pioneer's Well

Dug in 1883 by Llano Ranch workmen, this was Garza County's first hand-dug, rock-walled well â five feet square and forty feet deep, lined with sandstone laid without mortar. Fire destroyed its original wooden curb in 1937, and the present curb is a replica. The well supplied water for some forty-five years.
Llano Ranch

Established in 1880 and spanning 192 sections, the Llano Ranch was known as the "Curry Comb" for its cattle brand. Its first shelter was a half-dugout roofed with buffalo hides, replaced in 1883 by a two-story frame house that became the center of local social life. A baby girl born here in 1884 marked the first recorded birth in Garza County, and her nearby grave the first recorded death.
