The Story
Leon "Bix" Beiderbecke, the pioneering jazz cornetist and composer born in Davenport, Iowa, in 1903, died at this Sunnyside, Queens, address in 1931 at just 28. In his short life he became one of the most admired and imitated horn players of the Jazz Age, celebrated for his lyrical, bell-clear tone. He was, as the marker puts it, "the original young man with a horn."
